Description
This course integrates critical reading and writing. Students will develop the skills necessary to comprehend and analyze college-level texts. They will learn how to write college-level essays in response to the course readings. Students are engaged in close readings of expository texts for the purpose of recognizing and comprehending structure, meaning, and concepts across varied academic disciplines. The thematic approach enables students to have the opportunity to build knowledge within a context and to encounter texts that require increasingly complex levels of understanding.Extensive writing practice in response to readings, with emphasis on paragraph development and unity through a variety of rhetorical styles. Students learn how to incorporate textual evidence into essays, conduct online research, use MLA documentation, and write effective essays in preparation for ENG 110. Includes review of grammar and usage.
